Legato is a modular seating system designed for Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, developed for public spaces where seating becomes part of the spatial composition.
The collection is composed of five curved elements that can be combined into continuous, flowing configurations. Rather than forming a fixed sofa, the modules connect seamlessly to create long lines, bends, and serpentine arrangements that adapt to different layouts, programmes, and group sizes.
Each element follows the same geometric logic, allowing the system to extend or contract while maintaining a coherent overall form. This flexibility enables Legato to function both as intimate seating and as a larger spatial structure within open interiors.
The upholstered seating surfaces are complemented by linoleum-clad sides, giving the modules a durable, architectural edge and a clear material contrast. The system allows for different colour schemes, enabling each configuration to respond to its specific spatial context and atmosphere.
With its soft curves and continuous presence, Legato refers to the musical term legato, describing a smooth and uninterrupted flow. The sofa becomes a linear gesture within the space, guiding movement, defining zones, and encouraging informal gathering.
